Opportunity
IBM Research Europe (UK) is inviting outstanding MSc and PhD students to apply for its 2026 Summer Internship Program. Interns will work alongside leading scientists on cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning research, particularly in generative AI and its applications to scientific discovery.
Key Responsibilities
As an intern, you may:
- Contribute to the design of new AI architectures and training methods that improve the scalability and robustness of generative models.
- Develop and test single- and multi-agent systems, exploring innovative optimization and learning strategies.
- Research adaptive learning, model alignment, and resource-efficient training approaches.
- Apply AI techniques to address global sustainability challenges.
- Collaborate on experiments, prototype solutions, and contribute to patents or publications.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an MSc or PhD in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
- Strong programming skills (e.g. Python).
- Experience with deep neural networks and quantitative problem solving.
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge of ML frameworks (e.g. PyTorch).
- Familiarity with generative models or large language models.
- Experience in algorithm design or optimization.
- Research communication through publications or conference presentations.
